Espíritu Travel Guide: Things to Know before visiting Spain

The culture in Spain is so varied with influences from the Visigoths, Romans and Arabs. Spain is a mosaic of diverse traditions, cultures and ways of life and probably, it is one of the most beautiful countries to visit in Europe.

Here you are some interesting tips if you are preparing your trip to Spain:

Spanish people eat late

This is one of the main cultural differences. Lunch is from 2pm and dinner after 9pm. In a lot of places all over Spain, you might not find kitchens open until these hours but if you are hungry, you always can find tapas or snacks. Actually, in some places you can find a free tapa with your glass of wine or beer.

Spanish isn´t the only Official Language

Castellano (Castilian) is the Official Language but there are 3 other languages that are spoken in some Spanish regions and they are official too: Catalan, Galician and Basque.

Flamenco is not the National Dance

Flamenco is very popular worldwide and people often believe that it is the national dance of Spain but it´s not. Flamenco is originally from Andalusia region in Southern Spain and came from the gypsy communities. As a cultural country, Spain has more traditional dances: Muñeira in Galicia, Sardana in Catalonia or Paso Doble in the Center of Spain.

Spain has 46 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, some are entire towns or natural spots and they are distributed all over the country.
